In the name of God Amen, I, John GILLUM, Senr. of the County of Albemarle being of sound mind and disposing memory do make and order in this my last will and testament revoking all others heretofore made.

I give and bequeath to my daughter, Alice GILLUM, Four negroes to wit by name Dinah and her child Robert, Robert and Veria and their future increases with one feather bed and furniture to her and her heirs forever, but my desire is that if my said daughter Alice GILLUM should marry and die without issue that the four negroes thus devised to her with their increases should be divided equally among her brother and sisters except one-seventh part to my grandchildren heirs of my son Bennet GILLUM deceased to them and their heirs forever.

I give and bequeath to my daughter Fanny Rogers one negro woman by name of Jude and her nine children which she now has in her possession also one negro girl by name of Isbell with all her future increases to her and her heirs forever.

I give and bequeath to my son John GILLUM, Junr. Four negroes by name Brice, China, Daniel, and Gilbert to him and his heirs forever.

I give and bequeath to my daughter Elizabeth Ogles[by] Four negroes to wit by name Judah, Aclain, Garret, and Clem to her and her children forever.

I give and bequeath to my son Pleasant GILLUM One negro woman by name of Coaty and all her future increases, also One negro man by name of Stephen and One negro girl by name Sinia with her future increases also, One feather bed and furniture, one desk, one cow and calf, and one square table, also one tract or parcel of land containing Two Hundred Acres more or less including the dwelling house whereon I now live and his heirs forever.

I give and bequeath to my three grandchildren, heirs of my son Bennet GILLUM, deceased, the money arising from the sale of One negro woman by name Violet which said negro woman is to be sold by my executors hereafter mentioned on Twelve Months credit and the money equally divided and paid to them as they arise to the age of Twenty-One years and the interest of the said money to be applied towards the support of my said grandchildren provided my executors think it necessary until they arrive at the age aforesaid.

Also it is my will and desire that all of my debts be paid and to effect that object my executors are hereby directed to proceed to sell the whole residue of my estate not already particularly divided and out of the money arising there from to Discharge my said debts--and remainder to be equally divided among all my children included in this will, only my grandchildren heirs of my son Bennett GILLUM, dec'd, to be one equal part only, among them—to them and their heirs.

I do hereby constitute and appoint my two sons John GILLUM Jr., James GILLUM my executors to this my last will and testament.

In witness whereof I hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this Twenty-fourth Day of February in the Year of Our Lord One Thousand and Eight Hundred and eight.

At a Court held for Albemarle County this 5th of October, 1812, this Instrument of writing purporting to be the Last Will and Testament of John GILLUM, deceased, was produced into Court and proved by the Oaths of Hansel Bailey and Ann GILLUM witnesses thereto and ordered to be recorded.
